Hi. You should be brushing first. When you brush you should hold your toothbrush roughly 45 degrees down towards the gum line, not horizontal. Go in small round circles, doing one or two teeth at a time and going all the way roun from the back on one side to the other, and back round on the inside. This is the most effective way to remove plaque at the gum margin. Don't forget to brush on the biting (occlusal) surfaces of your teeth too!
Floss ideally should come next, and the floss should be curved around the tooth and slip now between the tooth and gum. It should be pulled up and down (not through in and out!) to literally scrape plaque from between your teeth and just under the gum. Then switch to the next tooth surface on the other side of the little triangle bit of gum (papilla) that comes up between the teeth.
After being very thorough, mouthwash to finish off! You must use a fluoride mouthwash.
This is important because mouthwash (unless it has chlorhexidine in it like Corsodyl or some prescription mouthwashes) cannot penetrate the plaque layer which is full of bacteria. If you tried mouthwashing with a lot of plaque remaining in your mouth, The fluoride from the mouthwash would not help remineralise the surface of the tooth that's covered by the plaque, so without brushing eventually a cavity would develop on the tooth where the plaque sticks. And mouthwash cannot remove plaque from the tooth surface either because it's very adherent!
One final note- when you finish brushing, flossing and mouthwashing, you shouldn't rinse out the toothpaste froth with water, because this literally washes the fluoride from the toothpaste and mouthwash from your mouth, and reduces its effect on your teeth and gums! So spit or dribble it out lightly, rinse with the mouthwash, and your done!
Maybe a bit too much detail, but I hope this helps! :)Are you suppose to brush your teeth first or use mouthwash?
You are suppose to brush first then use mouth wash second
Use this step by step for a healthy clean mouth. Rinse with Closys mouthwash, brush with Crest, rinse with lysterine then with Act. I know this sounds crazy, but you will never have to floss and you will neutrilize any harmful acids in your mouth that are harmful to the enamel. Are you suppose to brush your teeth first or use mouthwash?
My Nanna Always told me (b4 she died) To Use Mouth Wash Fist To Get Rid Of All the Yucky Stuff and Then brush to clean... and she was usually right, I quickly learnt to listen to what she had to say...

I've always heard that you floss to loosen stuff up, brush to clean away that stuff, and then mouthwash to get the nooks and crannies.
