Hi, I have got a set of 3 fire place tools (Shovel, Brush, etc.) with nice handles. What material are they off?

The tools are not usable (completely damaged) but the handles looks like vintage. (After some cleaning) I realized that they could be silver plated. But I am not sure. Maybe someone knows more about it. The handles are about 5.5'; long (each), weight about 220grams (each) and they all represent a horse face. If what you cleaned off was tarnish ,yes, they probably are silver plate. To be really sure you could purchase a jewelers' metal test kit. try a magnet. that will tell you if its steel,iron or nickle. if its not magnetic then its ';pot metal'; or brass/bronze.
