How to brush my dog's teeth?

My dog is a 4.5lbs Yorkshire Terrier and I use a special paper to clean his teeth but he keeps licking and my fingers get really wet it's disgusting. I was thinking about another way to brush his teeth (i.e. small toothbrush). I've already tried and he's scared of the toothbrush so he's struggling to get out and he starts crying.

Is it normal like it's greenish/brownish color on the back teeth? It's disgusting I've told my mom to go see a vet but she says it's okay.

Thanks!!How to brush my dog's teeth?
Good for you that you are brushing the dog's teeth!

You have to work up to it, slowly. Let him lick the doggie toothpaste off your finger, then off the brush. When that's going well, just brush one or two teeth. You want each session to end well. Then you just keep working your way up to his full mouth. If you do this in a few short sessions a day, most dogs accept it in a day or two.

If your dog is just not going to accept the brush, you can use a finger brush. Might be easier for you since he already lets you into his mouth with your hands.

And no, he shouldn't have any gunk up at the gumline. If his gums are not red or inflamed, let the vet check his teeth at the next scheduled visit. He'll tell you if the dog needs a professional cleaning.

Put it to your mom this way--brushing the dog's teeth costs 8 bucks a year. Professional cleanings are between 200 and 500 bucks a year. Appeal to her practical side. ;) I brush my dog's teeth daily, and shes never needed a professional cleaning even though she's 7 now. 45 bucks spent, 1400-3500 saved. How to brush my dog's teeth?
your dog could have gum disease. i suggest getting a toothbrush and toothpaste specifically for dogs and try that. also, there are teeth cleaning treats you can get your dog. if that doesn't work take your dog to the vet. if it is gum disease it can be really painful for your dog to eat and your dogs teeth will eventually fall out. your dog can even die. but try cleaning them first. it's most likely just dirty teeth.
that is very unhealthy for the teeth to be that color. if you go somewhere like petsmart and go in the ';dental'; section you can buy disposable rubber gloves that have a small scrubber brush on the thumb and pointer finger and that should work. hope that helps :D
There are dog treats shaped like bones that clean dog's teeth just as well as brushing
no. that's not rly good. it meens possible gum disease. but if you go to pet smart or pet quarter OR pet co you can buy doggy toothbrushes and doggy toothpaste. ive boughten them at pet smart and they've worked the best. just a pointer its rather difficult to brush them. at least with my dog.
