Will paint thinner damage paint brushes if its used to remove dry paint from the brush?

Yes you can let them soak in minneral spirits without any harm, just watch that your solvent doesn't evaporate away..But if they are too far along it wouldn't do any good.Try to keep any wooden handle out of the liquid if possible this applies when using water as well.. They sell devices for hanging the brushes from while they soak. But it's just as easy to rig something up.And this will also help keep the bristles from attaining a permanent bend from resting on the bottom the container. Over time paint will built up in the heel of the bristles and the ferrule ,the metal part that holds the bristles together and joins them to the handle. Once I finish clearing brushes in a solvent or even water for that matter. I'll sometimes use some soap and water on them just to get any solvent or any remaining loose dead paint out. If they were really bad off I might use an old tooth brushes to sort of comb them to remove any dead paint. Then depending on the type of brush, will shape the bristles into their original shape and allow them to dry this way. Will paint thinner damage paint brushes if its used to remove dry paint from the brush?
Aye....my goodness! That made me cringe a little. Well, what kinda paint is it to begin with? Please step away from the thinner with the brushes until you try the old fashioned soap and water trick, please. I have dealt with paintbrushes since I could pick up one and washing your brushes is as important as painting with them! If they are actual hair brushes they can be totally ruined, if they are artificial then they can just melt in the thinner. If the paint was water-based you don't need thinner, you just need to let them soak for a bit in soapy water and keep checking on them and rinsing them out in warm (not hot) water. If they are artist brushes, the same thing goes, you just have to be much more delicate with them. If you want, email me!! I'll walk you through the CPR steps of paint brushes. You may need spirits, you may need minerals, you may just need soap water. Either way, you have some work ahead of you. Will paint thinner damage paint brushes if its used to remove dry paint from the brush?
